my favorite everything

 favorite villains

My comment on Louise Fletcher on the last entry made me think of this. I will do this as both TV and movies for reasons that will be obvious.

10. Lore, Star Trek TNG- He gave new meaning to the old "evil twin brother" gag, but made it here mainly because he was the bad guy in my favorite TNG episode, "Descent".

9. The mayor, season three of Buffy the Vampire Slayer- My personal favorite of the yearly big bads, he was the ultimate politician.

8. Female Shapeshifter, multiple seasons of Star Trek DS9- I dont think she was ever named, but she was as evil as they come.

7. The Joker, from multiple cartoons and movies- Batman Beyond, Return of the Joker was definitely the best of him as he was created, at his homicidal, comic best.

6. Colonel Jessup, A Few Good Men- probably the greatest courtroom climax ever.

5. Kai Winn, multiple seasons of DS9- played so well by Louise Fletcher as I mentioned in the last blog entry.

4. The Borg Queen, pick which version- is it possible to say she was so evil she almost transcended it?

3. Evil Angel, Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season two, and Angel, season four- He was absolutely bone chilling to watch. David Boreanz played the switch from good to evil to perfection.

2. Gul Dukat, multiple seasons of DS9- if Captain Sisko was the ultimate good guy on the show, Dukat was the devil, as was so deliciously shown on the last season or so. If you get the idea I loved the show, .

1. Dr. Hannibal Lechter, the Silence of the Lambs- Ive said it so many times, this is pretty much redundant. He was the best ever.

 All time oscars

Just for fun, a category for all time faves- I will put in a couple or so per category, and anyone else that wants can put in theirs, including some original categories.

Best movie- The Silence of the Lambs, Schindler's List (no surprise- 1&2 on my favorites list).

Best actor as a hero- single film- Harrison Ford for "Raiders of the Lost Ark"

Best actor as a villain- Anthony Hopkins in "Silence of the lambs"

Best actress as a hero- Jodi Foster in Silence of the Lambs.

Best actress as a villain- a tough call, but I have to go with Louise Fletcher in "One Flew over the Cuckoo's Nest" (although I admit to being influenced in the choice by her stellar almost seven year run as one of the great Star Trek villains on DS9, but it helped me make the choice).

Best Director- Steven Spielberg, for Schindler's List- no one else even comes close.

Best Cartoon- The Lion King

Best foreign film- Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon

Best special effects- Star Wars III, Revenge of the Sith- If you have seen the making of it DVD, and the movie, you know what I am talking about.

Let me know what you think, or if you have other categories.

 Favorite actresses

Somehow I got away from this after doing favorite actors- Ive always done this on what my mind was on at the time. Not in order but at the top.

10. Nicole Kidman- in fact, this is a love-hate thing, but she has been so good in what Ive liked, she made it here. Favorite movie- toss-up between Batman Forever (she was my favorite love interest in the series), or the Interpreter.

9. Audrey Hepburn- might have ranked higher, but she was in some stuff I really hated. Favorite Movie- Charade, of course.

8. Myrna Loy- tons of great movies, but the stand out role has to be Nora Charles from the Thin Man series.

7. Kate Mulgrew- Even if its for TV, I had to include her. Taking on the role as the first female Captain on a Star Trek series gets her points for this list alone. She far surpassed expectations.

6. Halle Berry- even with the dreadful Catwoman, she makes it on here. Favorite role- Storm in the X-Men movies, what else?

5. Kathryn Morris- another TV favorite from "Cold Case"-she shines on this mostly male show, and is its heart and soul.

4. Mariska Hargitay- it isnt a mystery why she won an emmy for her role on Law and Order SVU, but why she doesnt win every year.

3. Kyra Sedgwick- lots of great movies, but hopefully has found her true calling with "The Closer", on TNT.

2. Angelina Jolie- ok, ok, I just love to watch her. I loved the lara Croft movies, but my favorite is definitely watching her duke it out with Brad Pitt in "Mr and Mrs Smith".

1. Katherine Hepburn- the best of them all. Favorite- "Bringing Up Baby", of course.

 best doomsday thrillers

these are the movies about someone threatening to destroy the world or doing so. not in order but at the top.

10. On the Beach- I dont care which version- there have been a few of this classic story about waiting for the end.

9. Terminator3- I wont give away the ending by telling which way it went. Not a great movie, but good enough for here.

8. The Omega Man- as I have said before, a scary, scary movie.

7. Beneath the Planet of the Apes- all about the ending.

6. Dawn of the Dead- I guess the "Dead" movies qualify, and the newer version of this one is my personal favorite, as it manages to not be predictable.

5. Night of the Comet- if I ever do a category of the stupidest movies, this will probably be at or near the top, but even stupidity has charm at times.

4. I wish I could remember the name of this TV movie, the one where sunspots cause an illness where only people with a certain gene survive- the rest vanish- if anyone remembers it, let me know. Great story.

3. Titan AE- another one of those accidents that this got left off my best cartoons list, but it probably belongs here more.

2. sorry, had to include one tv show- the Twilight Zone episode with one of my favorite actors, Burgess Meredith, playing a librarian who survives a nuclear war. I wont tell you the twist and spoil the ending.

1. The Stand- Stephen King's own adaption of his book into a mini-series- brilliant from start to finish. Even Rob Lowe, who I hate with a passion otherwise, was great.

 favorite romance movies

This is not my favorite category of movie, but I will try. Some may be a stretch to fit the category, others teen movies, but this is the way I think of them.
10. Youve got Mail- to this day, I cant tell you just why I liked this movie, but I truly enjoyed it.

9. Sixteen Candles- a teen movie, but romance was at it's heart, and I loved it.

8. Jersey Girl- rougher language than I normally like, but a lot of fun to watch.

7. Only the Lonely- not so well known John Candy vehicle with Ally Sheedy as the love interest, and Maureen Ohara is a scream as his mother.

6. The Princess Bride- another movie that fits a lot of categories, but was a romance at its heart.

5. As Good as it Gets- I guess this is as good a place as any to put this movie that was better than Titanic, the movie that beat it for best picture.

4. Roxanne- the best take ever on the Cyrano De Bergerac story, with Steve Martin and Darryl Hannah- the bar scene with the 20 nose jokes was one of my all time favorites.

3. Ghost- with the wonderful story of undying love, the music, and that kiss, this is the untimate tear jerker for me.

2. An Officer and a Gentleman- did anyone else see this in a theater where everyone stood up and cheered when Richard Gere went to the factory to get Debra Winger at the end, like I did?

1. Bringing up Baby- easily one of the funniest movies ever, and on my top 10 all time movie list.
